|
Fred P. Brechtel has been owner and president of BMI since 1986 and
has accumulated over 40 years of high vacuum experience. He has been
trained in Germany as an electro-mechanical technician and emigrated
to the U.S. in the late 1950's. After working at a variety of
high-tech companies and laboratories, including Lawrence Livermore National
Laboratory and Electrofusion Corp., he started his own firm
specializing in the production of high-vacuum ion pumps, high vacuum
brazing and specialty brazing including complex ceramic-to-metal joints.

Fred J. Brechtel is Vice President for Research at BMI where he is an Atmospheric Scientist
managing projects focused on understanding the role of ambient particulate matter
in visibility reduction, human health effects and global climate. After completing
his B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering at U.C. Berkeley, he obtained
his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University. He worked
in various machine shops and as a mechanical technician before obtaining
his engineering degrees, and spent three years as an engineer with Varian
Associates before returning to school for his Ph.D. Currently,
his focus is on the development of new instrumentation to perform measurements
of the physical, chemical, and thermodynamic properties of particulate
matter in the atmosphere.

|
Andrew Corless is Senior Design Engineer at BMI. After completing
his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at U.C. Berkeley, Andy has worked as a software, mechanical and network
systems engineer for numerous organizations before joining BMI in 2003. He has extensive expertise in ebedded systems
programming using a variety of software languages. He has designed and
calibrated optical systems for measuring light intensity in medical instruments. Andy has developed mechanical
designs for various optical tooling systems, designed
and prototyped signal amplification electronics, and has managed several instrumentation
development projects. Recently, he has designed a compact,
automated liquid autosampler for a Particle-Into-Liquid-Sampler (PILS) and is currently developing
new optical particle counter technology for instrumentation to measure the water uptake of water by aerosols.
