BMI has designed and built custom instrumentation for the California Institute of Technology, Navy, DOE, NOAA PMEL, NOAA CMDL, NOAA ESRL,
Environment Canada, Georgia Institute of Technology and other groups.
Examples of current projects include:
- Development of the Differential Aerosol Sizing and Hygroscopicity Spectrometer Probe (DASH-SP): four optical particle counters
sampling from a DMA for rapid, size-resolved aerosol water uptake measurements over the 0.13-2 micron diameter size range and 0-93% RH range
- Design and fabrication of miniature aerosol virtual impactors, filter samplers and mixing
condensation particle counters for deployment on unmanned aerial vehicles
- Development of a new differential mobility analyzer for simultaneous detection of particles over a broad
size range
Examples of previous projects include:
- Aircraft Scanning Electrical Mobility Spectrometer (SEMS) for routine ambient size distribution measurements
- Differential mobility analyzer columns with automated flow control for hygroscopic growth measurements
- Automated liquid sample fraction collector for the PILS and other composition measurement applications
- Isokinetic aircraft aerosol sampling system with automated flow-feedback control
- Instrumented wind tunnel for aerosol sampling system flow and particle sampling efficiency tests
- Low-pressure-drop, stepper-motor-driven air flow controllers for 0-20 lpm flow control with minimal
vacuum requirements
- Air flow humidification systems for aerosol water uptake measurements and other applications
Contact BMI for your custom aerosol and other ambient measurement application needs, we'll be happy to work with you to
bring your concept to fruition.
